Academic Assessment
An academic assessment is conducted virtually through Google Meets, and takes between forty-five minutes to an hour and a half from start to finish. The purpose of an academic assessment is to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses across a variety of language and literacy skills, that allow practioners to best understand how to support a client's reading needs. After the initial testing is complete, the score for each subtest, index, and composite are calculated and a comprehensive report is written outlining the specific learning needs of the client, as well as recommendations for further support. Academic assessments can be completed for people in Kindergarten through Adulthood.
Identification vs. Diagnosis
Specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia can be identified through academic testing. While these educational identifications are based on high quality testing and reporting practices, they are not the same as a diagnosis, which must come from a medical provider. Academic identification can provide answers as to why someone may be struggling to read, and provide a starting point for a variety of supports, including; private interventions or formalized support plans based on the assessment report.
